2024 marks the 62nd year of the AAUW State College Used Book Sale. This community-wide event funds scholarships for local women returning to complete their college degrees, and local grant programs that reflect our mission to advance equity for women and girls.

The sale features a treasure trove of 200,000+ books and more. Whether you are a long-time shopper or first timer there is a wonderful variety of books, games, puzzles, CDs/DVDs, sheet music, and graphic novels to explore, investigate and purchase.

Suggestions for your book sale strategy follow:  Books are individually priced and displayed in 30+ categories. The books you seek may be in more than one location. For example, if you are interested in History, also check out Biographies for military and political figures and Social Sciences for cultural trends.  Exploring the Health and Self-Help category? Consider browsing through Philosophy or Religion.

For all things Penn State, State College and Centre County, there is a Pennsylvania section that also includes the rest of the state. Not finding what you want in Literature?  The Collector area will feature some beautiful classics. Our World Languages section is back. Do not forget Special Collections in its separate room or the gorgeous Art books. The large Children and Young Adult areas will keep kids busy and tweens and teens searching out their favorite titles and finding new ones. Science fiction and fantasy fans can browse both hard cover and paperbacks, as can mystery fans and romance aficionados.

The sale runs from Saturday, May 11 to Tuesday, May 14 at the Snider Ag Arena on the Penn State campus. Saturday morning is especially busy. For safety reasons no more than 400 shoppers (and 50 volunteers) are permitted in the building at time, resulting in significant waits. Sunday is a relaxed day to shop and there are plenty of excellent books. Monday is half-price day and Tuesday is ‘bag day’ when you can fill a bag for $10.  Hours run 9 am-8 pm daily except Tuesday, when the sale closes at 7:00 pm.

Parking is free and there is no fee to attend. We are unable to sell food and drink, but shoppers are welcome to bring their own to enjoy outdoors before and after shopping.

We welcome cash, checks, major credit cards, and Apple Pay. We believe in reuse and recycling! Please bring your own shopping bags.

Thanks to those donating books for the sale, volunteers who selflessly show up weekly to process them, and shoppers who fill their bookshelves, our sale remains vibrant in the age of e-readers. Books still matter, thanks to you!
