9:00-10:00 AM
Are You Ready?  It’s Medicare Time!

Presented by Eliza Weeden, Apprise and Ombudsman Coordinator.

Centre County Office of Aging

Participants will:

  • Learn the basics of original Medicare                      

  • Learn the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap Plans

  • Learn how to choose a drug plan                           

  • Learn what help is available

  • Learn about YOUR enrollment periods

Free Care at Center Volunteers in Medicine

Presented by Rick Arnold, Development Associate, Center Volunteers in Medicine

Participants will:

  • Learn what services CVIM provides in the following areas:  Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, Case Management, and Prescription Medication.

  • Learn how many professional volunteers provide care at CVIM

  • Realize the  fundraising needs of CVIM (1.2 million annually)

Child Safety in the Home

Presented by Kim Bahnsen, MSN, RN, Supervisor, Nurse Family Partnership, Centre County

Participants will:

  • Appreciate significance of childhood injuries in the home.

  • Relate child’s stage of development to potential for injury in the home.

  • Identify common household hazards that can lead to child injuries.

  • Identify measures to mitigate common household hazards.

Literacy for Life: How to Make Your Child a Better Reader

Presented By: Amy T.  Wilson, Executive Director, Mid-State Literacy Council

  • Learn why literacy matters

  • Identify why your brain is amazing

  • List family reading activities

Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Out of the Cold Shelter

Presented By: Kendra Gettig, Chair Out of the Cold Board

Participants will:

  • Learn the causes of homelessness and some solutions to homelessness

  • Learn the Mission, Vision and Core Values of OOTC. 

  • Learn the history of OOTC and why the program was started

  • Learn what services are provided by OOTC

  • Learn how the community can be involved with OOTC

Creating a Community of Care with Centre Safe

Presented By: Sarah McPherson, MSW, Director of Outreach & Education, Centre Safe

Participants will:

  • Learn about the free and confidential services provided by Centre Safe

  • Learn ways you can help your neighbor if they might be experiencing relationship violence

  • Hear about ways you can get involved in creating a safer community
