Centre County United Way’s (CCUW) mission is to improve lives in Centre County. We do this by partnering with local non-profit organizations who provide programs to our neighbors in need of help. The partner agencies deliver the services and CCUW assists with funding the program. None of this would be possible without the financial support of local community members, organizations, and businesses.

We solicit support in a number of ways to reach as many people as possible. Keeping in mind that we each have a different ability to make donations, CCUW asks for gifts of time, talent, and/or treasure. If you are not able to make a financial contribution that does not exclude you from making a difference in our community. Volunteering your time and sharing your talents are important ways to support CCUW and Centre County.

Along with sending letters to individuals, connecting with employees through their workplace, assisting Penn State with their campaign, and looking for new community members to support our efforts, we also put on special events to raise money for our annual fundraising campaign. The CCUW’s signature special event, Taste of the Town, is scheduled for Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Taste of the Town started in 1997 as a benefit for The Aids Project of Centre and Clinton Counties. Proceeds from the event were used to help HIV-positive residents and AIDS patients in the State College area obtain shelter, clothing, medical treatment, transportation, and other services. When the agency closed in 2011, their board of directors gifted the event to CCUW.

For the past eight years Taste of the Town has been held at The Penn Stater. This year the location has moved to the Bryce Jordan Center allowing for more people to attend. The event features local eateries, bakeries, wineries, breweries, distilleries, coffee shops, and food truck vendors offering samples of their signature dishes for attendees to browse and enjoy. An online silent auction and live auction are also part of the festivities. Entertainment by DJ Alex Nepa and a few other surprises are sure to make this year’s event a night to remember. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at https://am.ticketmaster.com/psubjc/buy.

As we move in to the holidays the staff and board of CCUW wish all our neighbors a season of peace and love and ask you to reflect on a quote by Jeff Warner, “We are not put on this earth for ourselves but are placed here for each other. If you are always there for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you”.

Our community can count on the CCUW Partner Network to be there for Centre County.
